Description
Invergordon is the most northerly grain distillery in Scotland, set on the Cromarty Firth in Easter Ross, with almost all of its output going into Whyte & Mackay's blends. This single cask was bottled by A.D. Rattray, distilled in 1966, at 46 years old, for its Individual Cask Bottling range. Single cask number 5 yielded 228 bottles, released for Germany.
Invergordon runs column stills over fifty feet tall on a maize and wheat mash, producing the soft, sweet grain spirit that forms the base of Whyte & Mackay's blends. Matured in ex-Bourbon casks.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 51.9%, without dilution, the ex-Bourbon wood gives vanillin for vanilla and oak lactones for coconut, with maltol for butterscotch. Long maturation has layered tropical fruit and a buttery, waxy weight over the grain's natural sweetness.
