Description
Founded in 1959, Invergordon makes grain whisky on a large scale for blending, so single grain bottlings under its own name are rare and come mostly from independent bottlers. This single cask was bottled by C. Dully Selection, distilled in 1972, at 45 years old. Single cask number 1088 yielded 140 bottles, released for Europe.
Invergordon is a grain distillery rather than a malt one, distilling a mash of maize, wheat and barley through tall continuous column stills to a light, high strength spirit. Matured in ex-Bourbon casks.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 44.1%, without dilution, the ex-Bourbon wood gives vanillin for vanilla and oak lactones for coconut, with maltol for butterscotch. Recorded bottle notes run to fresh orchard fruit and vanilla. Long maturation has layered tropical fruit and a buttery, waxy weight over the grain's natural sweetness.
