Description
Invergordon is the most northerly grain distillery in Scotland, set on the Cromarty Firth in Easter Ross, with almost all of its output going into Whyte & Mackay's blends. This single cask was bottled by WhiskyNerds, distilled in 1972, at 43 years old. Single cask number 13-05 yielded 102 bottles, released for the Netherlands.
Grain whisky like Invergordon's is made in continuous Coffey stills rather than pot stills, which gives a cleaner, sweeter and lighter spirit than malt. Matured in ex-Bourbon casks.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 49.8%, without dilution, the ex-Bourbon wood gives vanillin for vanilla and oak lactones for coconut, with maltol for butterscotch. Recorded bottle notes run to a light solvent lift. The great age has turned the spirit waxy and tropical, ripe mango and pineapple emerging over the vanilla.
