Description
A grain distillery in the malt heartland of the Northern Highlands, Invergordon sends most of its spirit into blends, leaving single grain releases to independent bottlers. This single cask was bottled by Archives, distilled in 1972, at 43 years old, for its The Fishes of Samoa range. Single cask number 11 yielded 258 bottles, released for the Netherlands.
Grain whisky like Invergordon's is made in continuous Coffey stills rather than pot stills, which gives a cleaner, sweeter and lighter spirit than malt. Matured in ex-Bourbon casks.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 49.9%, without dilution, the ex-Bourbon wood gives vanillin for vanilla and oak lactones for coconut, with maltol for butterscotch. Long maturation has layered tropical fruit and a buttery, waxy weight over the grain's natural sweetness.
