Description
Invergordon single grain is uncommon, the distillery's output largely feeding Whyte & Mackay blends rather than standalone bottlings. This release was bottled by Phil & Simon Thompson, distilled in 1987, at 35 years old. The outturn was 230 bottles.
Invergordon is a grain distillery rather than a malt one, distilling a mash of maize, wheat and barley through tall continuous column stills to a light, high strength spirit. Matured in ex-Bourbon casks.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 54.3%, without dilution, the ex-Bourbon wood gives vanillin for vanilla and oak lactones for coconut, with maltol for butterscotch. The great age has turned the spirit waxy and tropical, ripe mango and pineapple emerging over the vanilla.
