Description
A grain distillery in the malt heartland of the Northern Highlands, Invergordon sends most of its spirit into blends, leaving single grain releases to independent bottlers. This single cask was bottled by Murray McDavid, distilled in 1987, at 33 years old, for its Mission Gold range. Single cask number 1901555+2013160 yielded 589 bottles.
Invergordon runs column stills over fifty feet tall on a maize and wheat mash, producing the soft, sweet grain spirit that forms the base of Whyte & Mackay's blends. Matured in a Port cask with a finish in oak.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 48.5%, without dilution, the Port wood adds plum and cherry, with a faint tannic grip and a jammy sweetness. The great age has turned the spirit waxy and tropical, ripe mango and pineapple emerging over the vanilla.
