Description
Invergordon is the most northerly grain distillery in Scotland, set on the Cromarty Firth in Easter Ross, with almost all of its output going into Whyte & Mackay's blends. This release was bottled by Liquid Treasures, distilled in 1990, at 31 years old, for its Retro range. The outturn was 152 bottles, released for Europe.
Invergordon runs column stills over fifty feet tall on a maize and wheat mash, producing the soft, sweet grain spirit that forms the base of Whyte & Mackay's blends. Matured in ex-Bourbon casks.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 53.9%, without dilution, the ex-Bourbon wood gives vanillin for vanilla and oak lactones for coconut, with maltol for butterscotch. Decades in oak have pushed the light grain into waxy, tropical territory, with mango and pineapple from slow ester development.
