Description
Invergordon single grain is uncommon, the distillery's output largely feeding Whyte & Mackay blends rather than standalone bottlings. This release was bottled by North Star Spirits, distilled in 1994, at 30 years old, for its Capella range. The outturn was 470 bottles, released for Europe.
Grain whisky like Invergordon's is made in continuous Coffey stills rather than pot stills, which gives a cleaner, sweeter and lighter spirit than malt. Matured in ex-Bourbon casks.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 50%, without dilution, the ex-Bourbon wood gives vanillin for vanilla and oak lactones for coconut, with maltol for butterscotch. Long maturation has layered tropical fruit and a buttery, waxy weight over the grain's natural sweetness.
