Description
Founded in 1959, Invergordon makes grain whisky on a large scale for blending, so single grain bottlings under its own name are rare and come mostly from independent bottlers. This single cask was bottled by Brave New Spirits, distilled in 1997, at 28 years old, for its Cask Masters range. Single cask number 300725/1997 yielded 253 bottles, released for Europe.
Invergordon runs column stills over fifty feet tall on a maize and wheat mash, producing the soft, sweet grain spirit that forms the base of Whyte & Mackay's blends. Matured in a Vin Doux Naturel cask.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 51.9%, without dilution, the Vin Doux Naturel wood, having held a sweet fortified wine, adds candied red fruit and raisined sweetness. Invergordon's light grain core keeps it soft and sweet through a long vanilla finish.
