Description
Invergordon is the most northerly grain distillery in Scotland, set on the Cromarty Firth in Easter Ross, with almost all of its output going into Whyte & Mackay's blends. This single cask was bottled by A.D. Rattray, distilled in 1988, at 25 years old, for its Individual Cask Bottling range. Single cask number 8093 yielded 309 bottles, released for Europe.
Grain whisky like Invergordon's is made in continuous Coffey stills rather than pot stills, which gives a cleaner, sweeter and lighter spirit than malt. Matured in ex-Bourbon casks.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 52.8%, without dilution, the ex-Bourbon wood gives vanillin for vanilla and oak lactones for coconut, with maltol for butterscotch. Invergordon's light grain core keeps it soft and sweet through a long vanilla finish.
