Description
Founded in 1959, Invergordon makes grain whisky on a large scale for blending, so single grain bottlings under its own name are rare and come mostly from independent bottlers. This release was bottled by Master of Malt, distilled in 1991, at 23 years old, for its Single Cask Series range. The outturn was 82 bottles, released for Germany.
Invergordon runs column stills over fifty feet tall on a maize and wheat mash, producing the soft, sweet grain spirit that forms the base of Whyte & Mackay's blends. Matured in an Oloroso sherry cask.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 52.8%, without dilution, the Oloroso wood adds dried fruit, with melanoidins reading as fig and raisin and tannins giving a walnut dryness. The result is a soft, sweet profile led by vanilla and coconut, into a gentle finish.
