Description
Invergordon is the most northerly grain distillery in Scotland, set on the Cromarty Firth in Easter Ross, with almost all of its output going into Whyte & Mackay's blends. This release was bottled by Murray McDavid, distilled in 2007, at 16 years old, for its Select Grain range. The outturn was 569 bottles, released for Europe.
Grain whisky like Invergordon's is made in continuous Coffey stills rather than pot stills, which gives a cleaner, sweeter and lighter spirit than malt. Matured in oak.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 51.5%, without dilution, the ex-Bourbon wood gives vanillin for vanilla and oak lactones for coconut, with maltol for butterscotch. Recorded bottle notes run to a sherry note, cocoa, stewed fruit, honey, husky and malt sweetness. Invergordon's light grain core keeps it soft and sweet through a long vanilla finish.
