Description
A grain distillery in the malt heartland of the Northern Highlands, Invergordon sends most of its spirit into blends, leaving single grain releases to independent bottlers. This single cask was bottled by A.D. Rattray, distilled in 2003, at 16 years old, for its Individual Cask Release range. Single cask number 37483 yielded 284 bottles, released for Germany.
Invergordon is a grain distillery rather than a malt one, distilling a mash of maize, wheat and barley through tall continuous column stills to a light, high strength spirit. Matured in ex-Bourbon casks.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 63.6%, without dilution, the ex-Bourbon wood gives vanillin for vanilla and oak lactones for coconut, with maltol for butterscotch. Underneath the wood the grain stays soft and sweet, into a clean, mellow finish.
