Description
Invergordon single grain is uncommon, the distillery's output largely feeding Whyte & Mackay blends rather than standalone bottlings. This single cask was bottled by Murray McDavid, distilled in 2011, at 11 years old, for its Select Grain range. Single cask number 900037 - 42 yielded 1093 bottles, released for Germany.
Invergordon is a grain distillery rather than a malt one, distilling a mash of maize, wheat and barley through tall continuous column stills to a light, high strength spirit. Matured in ex-Bourbon casks.
Bottled at 46%, the ex-Bourbon wood gives vanillin for vanilla and oak lactones for coconut, with maltol for butterscotch. Recorded bottle notes run to citrus, dried hay, fresh oak, a dry, sandy note, a light solvent lift and a toasted note. The result is a soft, sweet profile led by vanilla and coconut, into a gentle finish.
