Description
This is a long aged Bellevue from Guadeloupe, distilled in 1998 and bottled at 24 years by Infinity Spirits under The Royal Cane Cask Company label. Bellevue, on Marie Galante, runs a column still and supplies much of its output to independent bottlers, and a quarter century in cask makes this a single barrel for drinkers who like their island rums mature, woody and reflective rather than bright and young.
The spirit here comes from molasses, matured in ex bourbon oak at full cask strength of 51.5%. Long ageing has drawn out red fruit and strawberry jam, bitter orange and a cooling mint note, all framed by leather, black tea and well polished wood. The fruit and floral lift keep it from feeling tired despite the years, and the finish runs dry and oak driven. This is a neat pour for a quiet evening, best given time in the glass to open.
