Description
Few Speyside distilleries taste of the sea, but Inchgower, near the Buckie fishing harbour, carries a briny, waxy character into almost everything it makes. Murray McDavid bottled this and released it with no age statement in its Cask Craft range. It was released for Europe.
The distillery's spirit is built for body rather than elegance, nutty and waxy with a coastal salt note unusual for Speyside. This bottling matured in a Madeira cask.
Bottled at 44.5%, the Madeira wood adds candied citrus and a faint tang of burnt sugar from its heated maturation. Without an age statement, the cask character and the spirit's saline edge sit together as bottled. The recorded notes run to fresh orchard fruit, honey, citrus, dried fruit, a husky, grainy note and malt sweetness.
