Description
Inchgower sits on the Moray Firth coast outside Buckie, a Speyside distillery in name whose malt is salty and savoury in a way the region's usually are not. James Eadie, a revived blending name, selected this single cask, distilled in 2014, and released it at 8 years old in its Malaga Cask Finish range. Single cask 367347 gave 326 bottles, released for Europe.
A quick mashing regime and a warmer second water give Inchgower the savoury, saline character that earns it the Manzanilla of Speyside nickname. This bottling matured in a Malaga wine cask.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 52.9%, without dilution, the Malaga wine wood adds a dark, raisined sweetness, melanoidins reading as fig and date. At under ten years the cask has had only a short time to work, so Inchgower's own salty, waxy spirit still leads. The recorded notes run to stewed fruit, dried fruit, fresh oak, cocoa, a nutty note and vanilla.
