Description
Inchgower is the coastal outlier of Speyside, owned by Diageo and built mostly into the Bell's blend, with single malt a rare sight. Murray McDavid selected this single cask, distilled in 2016, and released it at 7 years old in its Benchmark range. Single cask 26 gave 290 bottles, released for Germany.
Inchgower's four stills carry steeply angled lyne arms that hold back the heavier, oilier vapours, part of why the malt comes out nutty, waxy and faintly saline. This bottling matured in a tawny Port cask.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 57.1%, without dilution, the tawny Port wood, long oxidised in cask, gives mellow caramel, dried fig and walnut. At under ten years the cask has had only a short time to work, so Inchgower's own salty, waxy spirit still leads. The recorded notes run to cocoa.
