Description
Inchgower is rarely bottled on its own, most of its salty, nutty spirit going to the blenders, so independent releases carry the distillery's name where the blends do not. Langside Distillers bottled this, distilled in 2008, and released it at 7 years old in its Hepburn's Choice range. The outturn was 380 bottles, released for Germany.
Inchgower's four stills carry steeply angled lyne arms that hold back the heavier, oilier vapours, part of why the malt comes out nutty, waxy and faintly saline. This bottling matured in an Oloroso sherry cask.
Bottled at 46%, the Oloroso butt drives fig and date, the spirit's saline edge cutting through the sherry sweetness. At under ten years the cask has had only a short time to work, so Inchgower's own salty, waxy spirit still leads.
