Description
Inchgower is the coastal outlier of Speyside, owned by Diageo and built mostly into the Bell's blend, with single malt a rare sight. La Maison du Whisky bottled this, distilled in 2013, and released it at 5 years old in its Four Styles range. It was released for France.
The distillery's spirit is built for body rather than elegance, nutty and waxy with a coastal salt note unusual for Speyside. This bottling matured in an ex-Bourbon cask.
Bottled at 40%, the ex-Bourbon barrel adds vanilla from vanillin and a coconut note from oak lactones, over a light cereal sweetness. At under ten years the cask has had only a short time to work, so Inchgower's own salty, waxy spirit still leads. The recorded notes run to a cereal mash note, fresh orchard fruit, green, leafy notes and a yeasty note.
