Description
Inchgower is the coastal outlier of Speyside, owned by Diageo and built mostly into the Bell's blend, with single malt a rare sight. Kintra Whisky selected this single cask, distilled in 1990, from the distillery's United Distillers and early Diageo era, and released it at 23 years old in its Single Cask Collection range. Single cask 6746 gave 108 bottles, released for the Netherlands.
Inchgower's four stills carry steeply angled lyne arms that hold back the heavier, oilier vapours, part of why the malt comes out nutty, waxy and faintly saline. This bottling matured in an ex-Bourbon cask.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 48.3%, without dilution, the refill ex-Bourbon oak works gently, vanillin reading as vanilla and furfural as a faint toasted almond. At 23 years the long maturation has deepened the spirit, the oak adding weight to its savoury core.
