Description
Few Speyside distilleries taste of the sea, but Inchgower, near the Buckie fishing harbour, carries a briny, waxy character into almost everything it makes. The Firkin Whisky Co. Ltd. selected this single cask, distilled in 2010, and released it with no age statement in its The Firkin Rare range. It came from single cask SC43, released for Germany.
The distillery's spirit is built for body rather than elegance, nutty and waxy with a coastal salt note unusual for Speyside. This bottling matured in a Pedro Ximenez sherry cask.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 48.9%, without dilution, the Pedro Ximenez wood is the sweetest of the sherry styles, melanoidins reading as raisin, date and treacle over a syrupy body. Without an age statement, the cask character and the spirit's saline edge sit together as bottled.
