Description
Inchgower is rarely bottled on its own, most of its salty, nutty spirit going to the blenders, so independent releases carry the distillery's name where the blends do not. Jack Wiebers Whisky World selected this single cask, distilled in 2000, and released it at 18 years old in its The Scottish Malt Steamship Line - Collectors Edition range. Single cask 539 gave 186 bottles, released for Europe.
A quick mashing regime and a warmer second water give Inchgower the savoury, saline character that earns it the Manzanilla of Speyside nickname. This bottling matured in an ex-Bourbon cask.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 51%, without dilution, American oak from the ex-Bourbon cask supplies vanilla and coconut, with eugenol adding a touch of clove. At 18 years the cask has had time to round off the spirit's coastal edge and pull the flavours together.
