Description
Built in 1871 near the fishing port of Buckie, Inchgower makes a briny, nutty malt that has long been a backbone of Bell's. Shinanoya bottled this, distilled in 2001, and released it at 17 years old.
The distillery's spirit is built for body rather than elegance, nutty and waxy with a coastal salt note unusual for Speyside. This bottling matured in a Madeira cask.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 55.6%, without dilution, the Madeira wood adds candied citrus and a faint tang of burnt sugar from its heated maturation. At 17 years the cask has had time to round off the spirit's coastal edge and pull the flavours together. The recorded notes run to citrus, a cooked vegetable note, dried fruit, honey, malt sweetness and seasoned oak.
