Description
Few Speyside distilleries taste of the sea, but Inchgower, near the Buckie fishing harbour, carries a briny, waxy character into almost everything it makes. Keeble Cask Company Ltd. selected this single cask, distilled in 2009, and released it at 16 years old in its Fragrant Drops range. Single cask 275 gave 200 bottles, released for the Netherlands.
Inchgower's four stills carry steeply angled lyne arms that hold back the heavier, oilier vapours, part of why the malt comes out nutty, waxy and faintly saline. This bottling matured in a Fino sherry cask.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 56.4%, without dilution, the Fino wood stays dry and nutty, almond and a saline edge over light tannins. At 16 years the cask has had time to round off the spirit's coastal edge and pull the flavours together. The recorded notes run to cocoa.
