Description
Inchgower sits on the Moray Firth coast outside Buckie, a Speyside distillery in name whose malt is salty and savoury in a way the region's usually are not. The Whisky Agency bottled this, distilled in 2010, and released it at 15 years old in its A Taste of Limburg selected by Cafe Meloni range. It was released for Germany.
The distillery's spirit is built for body rather than elegance, nutty and waxy with a coastal salt note unusual for Speyside. This bottling matured in a tawny Port cask.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 49.3%, without dilution, the tawny Port wood, long oxidised in cask, gives mellow caramel, dried fig and walnut. At 15 years the wood and the salty, nutty spirit are roughly in balance.
