Description
Inchgower is rarely bottled on its own, most of its salty, nutty spirit going to the blenders, so independent releases carry the distillery's name where the blends do not. Global Whisky Limited selected this single cask, distilled in 2013, and released it at 12 years old in its The Red Cask Co. range. Single cask 302738 gave 209 bottles, released for Germany.
Inchgower's four stills carry steeply angled lyne arms that hold back the heavier, oilier vapours, part of why the malt comes out nutty, waxy and faintly saline. This bottling matured in an Oloroso sherry cask.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 51.6%, without dilution, the Oloroso sherry cask layers raisin and fig from its melanoidins over a drying, nutty oak grip. At 12 years the wood and the salty, nutty spirit are roughly in balance.
