Description
Inchgower is rarely bottled on its own, most of its salty, nutty spirit going to the blenders, so independent releases carry the distillery's name where the blends do not. Scotch Malt Whisky Society selected this single cask, distilled in 2010, and released it at 12 years old in its Subtle nut brittle in a bottle range. Single cask 18.53 gave 264 bottles, released for Germany.
Inchgower's four stills carry steeply angled lyne arms that hold back the heavier, oilier vapours, part of why the malt comes out nutty, waxy and faintly saline. This bottling matured in an Oloroso sherry cask.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 56.2%, without dilution, the Oloroso butt drives fig and date, the spirit's saline edge cutting through the sherry sweetness. At 12 years the wood and the salty, nutty spirit are roughly in balance.
