Description
Few Speyside distilleries taste of the sea, but Inchgower, near the Buckie fishing harbour, carries a briny, waxy character into almost everything it makes. Adelphi, a Highland independent, selected this single cask, distilled in 2010, and released it at 12 years old in its Selection range. Single cask 809889 gave 512 bottles, released for Europe.
The distillery's spirit is built for body rather than elegance, nutty and waxy with a coastal salt note unusual for Speyside. This bottling matured in a Palo Cortado sherry cask.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 57.4%, without dilution, the Palo Cortado wood sits between Amontillado and Oloroso, nutty and rich in dried fruit with a saline edge. At 12 years the wood and the salty, nutty spirit are roughly in balance. The recorded notes run to cocoa, citrus, stewed fruit, fresh orchard fruit, honey and fresh oak.
