Description
Inchgower is rarely bottled on its own, most of its salty, nutty spirit going to the blenders, so independent releases carry the distillery's name where the blends do not. Jack Wiebers Whisky World selected this single cask, distilled in 2009, and released it at 12 years old in its Great Ocean Liners range. Single cask 3609 gave 120 bottles, released for Germany.
The distillery's spirit is built for body rather than elegance, nutty and waxy with a coastal salt note unusual for Speyside. This bottling matured in an ex-Bourbon cask.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 57.4%, without dilution, the refill ex-Bourbon oak works gently, vanillin reading as vanilla and furfural as a faint toasted almond. At 12 years the wood and the salty, nutty spirit are roughly in balance. The recorded notes run to fresh orchard fruit, honey, malt sweetness, fresh oak, an oily texture and vanilla.
