Description
Inchgower is rarely bottled on its own, most of its salty, nutty spirit going to the blenders, so independent releases carry the distillery's name where the blends do not. James Eadie, a revived blending name, selected this single cask, distilled in 2009, and released it at 12 years old in its Sherry Cask Finish range. Single cask 348039 gave 613 bottles.
Inchgower's four stills carry steeply angled lyne arms that hold back the heavier, oilier vapours, part of why the malt comes out nutty, waxy and faintly saline. This bottling matured in an Oloroso sherry cask.
Bottled at its natural cask strength of 58.7%, without dilution, the Oloroso sherry cask layers raisin and fig from its melanoidins over a drying, nutty oak grip. At 12 years the wood and the salty, nutty spirit are roughly in balance.
