Description
I Vigneri is the growers' association led by Salvo Foti, one of the defining figures of modern Etna wine. Vigna di Milo is a Carricante grown on the eastern flank of Mount Etna in Sicily, where the vineyards sit on terraces of black volcanic soil, weathered lava and ash, at altitude on the volcano's slopes. The elevation and the sharp day to night temperature swing give Carricante its trademark high acidity and taut mineral line, while the volcanic soil lends a smoky, saline depth. Farming is natural and organic. The wine is fermented and aged for twelve months in oak barrel, where slow oxygen exchange and lees contact build texture and savoury complexity without masking the fruit, since Carricante's firm acid structure easily carries the wood. Expect a pale gold colour, a nose of lemon, green apple, white flowers and a flinty, smoky mineral note, and a linear, saline palate with citrus, almond and a long stony finish that will deepen with age. At 12% it is precise and dry. Serve at 10 to 12 degrees.
