I TANT Garnacha Tinta is a young Montsant red from Joan Angel and Josep Serra, made from a local variety with no oak. It shows ripe raspberry, cherry and a peppery, herbal lift over the warm body the appellation is known for.
Description
I TANT Garnacha Tinta comes from the D.O. Montsant in Catalonia, made by Joan Angel and Josep Serra for I Tant Vins, a young project built around local varieties that reflect their region. Montsant wraps around the inner zone of Priorat and shares much of its character, with vines grown on a mix of clay, limestone and the slate licorella found at the higher sites, all set in a warm Mediterranean climate tempered by altitude and the mountain breeze. Garnacha thrives here, ripening to generous sugar and giving the appellation its warm, fleshy reds. This bottling is made and released young with no oak ageing, which keeps the focus on the fruit and the freshness, the fermentation handled to preserve the grape's bright berry character. The colour is a vivid cherry red. The nose shows ripe raspberry, cherry and plum with black pepper and a wild herb edge drawn from the surrounding scrub. The palate is full and round, with soft tannins, ripe fruit and a warming 14.5 per cent, the finish savoury and peppery. Serve at 16 degrees, lightly chilled if the day is warm. It suits grilled lamb and roast vegetables.
