Description
Ante is an Etna Bianco from I Custodi delle Vigne dell'Etna, an estate farming on the volcanic slopes of Mount Etna in Sicily. The blend is led by Carricante with Grecanico and Minella, native varieties suited to this extreme site. The vines grow on black volcanic soils of weathered lava and ash, free draining, mineral rich ground that gives Etna whites their distinctive smoky salinity, while the high altitude and wide swing between hot days and cold nights preserve the sharp acidity that defines the grape. Ante is aged on its lees in stainless steel with further time in bottle. Steel keeps the wine fresh and precise, while the lees contact adds a fine texture and roundness without any oak influence, letting the volcanic character stay in front. Expect a pale colour with a green tint, a nose of lemon, green apple and white peach with white flowers and a mineral, almost flinty note, and a dry, linear palate that closes on a stony, saline finish. Serve well chilled at 9 to 11 degrees.
