Hunter’s is a Marlborough pioneer, and this Sauvignon Blanc is aged on lees to add texture. Grown on New Zealand’s South Island, it shows gooseberry, lime, green apple and cut grass over a crisp, saline palate with a clean, herbal finish.
Description
Hunter's was founded in 1979 by Ernie Hunter and is one of the pioneering wineries of Marlborough, on the northern tip of New Zealand's South Island. Marlborough's cool, sunny, maritime climate and free-draining alluvial soils are the classic setting for Sauvignon Blanc, with warm days and cold nights driving both ripeness and the bright acidity that defines the region's whites. This vegan wine is aged on its lees, a step that softens the sharp edges and adds a subtle creamy texture and savoury weight through contact with the spent yeast. The style stays fresh and aromatic rather than oaky. It shows pale lemon with green flecks, a pungent nose of gooseberry, lime, elderflower, green apple and freshly cut grass. The palate is crisp and dry, with zesty citrus and green fruit, a subtle lees-derived roundness and a saline, herbal finish of real length. This is a classic Marlborough Sauvignon with a little more texture than most. Serve well chilled at 8 to 10 degrees. Excellent with goat cheese, shellfish, green salads and asparagus.
