Blueberries lead from the front here, deep and jammy, trailing raspberry, peppermint and a soft dusting of cinnamon and lavender. Born from two friends and a Black Forest distiller’s uncle, it is distilled three times by hand around twenty-two botanicals. Naturally sweet, fruit-dark and easy over ice.
Description
The story behind Huckleberry began over a gin and tonic, when Max and Jens decided friendship deserved its own bottle. A friend's uncle, third generation in a Black Forest distillery, took the project on, distilling the liqueur three times by hand around twenty-two botanicals. Juniper, angelica root, coriander, ginger, cinnamon and a whisper of lavender lay the foundation, while elderflower, hop blossom, lemon peel and raspberry add the fruit; blueberry, folded in on the final distillation, gives the liqueur both its natural sweetness and its deep, purple-red colour.
The nose is all fresh blueberry, lavender and a minty lift of citrus. The palate is soft and fruit-forward, blueberry surrounded by raspberry and peppermint, with cinnamon and lavender keeping it from cloying. The finish is long and gently sweet. Pour it over ice on its own, or lengthen with tonic to draw out the berries.
