Description
HSE Small Cask 2016 comes from HSE, the Habitation Saint-Etienne brand distilled at the Distillerie du Simon in Martinique and known for its cask work and vintages. Made under the AOC, it is distilled from fresh-pressed cane juice on a creole column, then matured in small ex-bourbon casks from a 2016 harvest.
At nearly eight years and bottled at 46% without added sugar, this is a properly aged agricole, and small-cask maturation in tropical heat works quickly on the spirit. Expect the grassy cane core deepened by vanilla, toasted oak and baking spice, dry and spice-forward rather than sweet. A rum built for slow, neat sipping.
