HSE Réserve Spéciale VSOP

HSE Reserve Speciale is a VSOP agricole made on Martinique, where rum carries the only AOC in the world. That matters here: the spirit is distilled from fresh pressed sugar cane juice rather than molasses, run off a single creole column at low strength to keep the cane character in, with no added sugar permitted under the appellation.

Four years in ex-bourbon oak push this toward the wood driven end of agricole. The grassy, vegetal core of the cane is still present but framed by warm oak, vanilla, dried fruit and a note of dark chocolate, with leather and coffee on a dry, lightly peppery finish. At 45% it sits in approachable territory, a middle ground for drinkers stepping into agricole from balanced, oak led sippers without taking on a raw, full strength blanc. It works neat, in a Ti Punch, or alongside a cigar.
