A structured Martinique agricole from HSE drawn from a small cask, dry and woody with classic cane, dried fruit, baking spice and a thread of chocolate, focused and unsweetened at 46%.
Description
HSE's Extra Vieux Small Cask 2014 is an aged Martinique agricole distilled at the Distillerie du Simon from fresh sugarcane juice, matured in ex-bourbon oak for roughly six and a half years. Small-cask ageing speeds oak extraction, and with AOC Martinique status the bottling lands firmly in the vieux tier, dry and unsweetened at 46%.
The creole column keeps the cane character present beneath the wood, so the nose is woody and toasted with vanilla and dried fruit. The palate stays dry and oak-led, vanilla and dried fruit joined by a peppery lift, the finish carrying vanilla, wood and more dried fruit. It is a focused, spice-forward agricole that drinks well with food, the structure clear without much heat. A safe pick for someone who likes their cane juice on the drier, woodier side, neat or stirred.
