A ten year Martinique extra vieux from HSE, matured in small ex-bourbon casks at 46%, richly woody and roasted with raisin, dried fruit and barrel spice, an aromatic, intensely fruity aged agricole for slow sipping.
Description
This HSE Extra Vieux Small Cask 2007 sits firmly in the aged tier, an agricole distilled on the creole column from fresh cane juice and matured ten years in small ex-bourbon casks. The smaller format speeds up oak extraction, and it shows.
Bottled at a generous 46% and aged under tropical conditions, it leans into deep wood and dried fruit. The nose is woody and roasted with raisin and dried fruit, the barrel char clear but not dominant, while the palate brings dried fruit, oak and warm spice. The finish stays on dried fruit, barrel and a touch of sweetness. Dry in the AOC tradition, it pairs that rich oak with a lovely agricole fruitiness and natural cane sweetness. Aromatic and full of character, it is a satisfying, intensely flavoured vieux for unhurried, contemplative sipping.
