HSE chêne américain 2007

HSE, made at the Distillerie du Simon, is known for its cask finishes and vintages, and Chene Americain 2007 is a single cask matured a full ten years in American oak. It is AOC rhum agricole from Martinique, distilled from fresh pressed sugarcane juice on a column still, then left to take colour and spice from the barrel in the Caribbean heat.

A decade of tropical ageing shows in the oak influence without crushing the cane. The nose leans woody with vanilla and dried fruit, the palate brings cinnamon, fruit and oak with a creamy, slightly oily mouthfeel, and the finish carries vanilla, barrel and dark chocolate.
