Description
HSE, or Habitation Saint-Etienne, is a Martinique house known for its cask-finish series, and this bottling spends its final stretch in casks from the Margaux estate Chateau Marquis de Terme. Distilled on a creole column from fresh sugar-cane juice and aged close to eight years, it is bottled unsweetened at 48%, the bordeaux wood reshaping the cane spirit.
The wine influence sits clearly on top. The nose carries oak, grapes and vanilla with a red-wine lift; the palate turns to blackcurrant, grapes and an earthy, woody depth; the finish brings cinnamon, oak and red wine over an astringent edge. Tasters describe an elegant, soft wood and recommend letting it breathe or even decanting to draw out the fruit. The result is a layered, wine-touched aged agricole that keeps HSE's woody backbone while the bordeaux cask adds dark-fruit richness, a contemplative neat pour for drinkers who enjoy rum at the edge of the cellar.
