A 10 year old HSE from Martinique with a Sauternes finish, 2009 cane juice at 41%, rounded and fruity with prunes, caramel and orange, the sweet wine cask adding dried fruit and a pastry close.
Description
HSE Chateau la Tour Blanche is a Martinique agricole from HSE, distilled at the Distillerie du Simon and known for its cask finished and vintage releases within the island's rum AOC. Distilled from fresh cane juice on a column still, this 2009 vintage spent ten years maturing and was finished in Sauternes wood before bottling at 41%.
The sweet wine finish suits the spirit well. Prunes, oak and caramelised notes lead the nose over a sugarcane base, the palate brings caramel, orange and barrel, and the finish carries sugarcane, pastry, dried fruit and a clear wine note. The Sauternes cask rounds the agricole's grassy edge and adds plump dried fruit, present enough to define the rum without burying the cane. A fruity, rounded aged agricole for drinkers who enjoy wine cask influence on dry cane spirit, an easy neat pour.
