A young Martinique agricole from Distillerie du Simon under the HSE label, four years in American oak, pairing familiar vanilla and young wood with light smoke over grassy cane at 40%, a gentle first step into the style for whisky drinkers.

Description
HSE Black Sheriff is an AOC Martinique rhum agricole from Distillerie du Simon, distilled from fresh pressed cane juice on a creole column at low strength to keep the cane character intact. This One Shot expression is a blend of roughly three to four year old rum aged in American oak ex-bourbon barrels, finished and framed with whisky and bourbon drinkers in mind.
The American oak gives vanilla, young wood and a touch of light smoke, while the agricole base supplies grassy sugarcane, fruit and gentle spice underneath, finishing woody and bright at an easy 40%. It wears its youth openly and leans a little more toward oak than the grassier, drier classic agricole profile, which is precisely what makes it such an approachable bridge for someone coming from whisky. Unsweetened and well priced, it is an unintimidating introduction to Martinique rhum, equally at home as a casual sipper or in a Ti Punch or Mai Tai.
