Honoro Vera Tempranillo is a young Rioja from Bodegas Rosario Vera, the Juan Gil family’s project in Rioja Alta and Alavesa. Tempranillo from vines of fifteen to sixty years sees five months in French oak, giving black cherry, plum and blackberry with a fresh, savoury finish.
Description
Honoro Vera Tempranillo is made by Bodegas Rosario Vera, the Rioja winery of the Juan Gil family group, from plots across Rioja Alta and Rioja Alavesa acquired in 2016. The fruit comes from Tempranillo vines aged between fifteen and sixty years, the older plants adding depth and concentration to the blend. These western and northern sectors of Rioja, on clay-limestone soils under an Atlantic-influenced climate, give Tempranillo its bright red and dark fruit and keep the acidity fresh. This is a young, fruit-led style, with a short five months in French oak that adds a light frame of spice and vanilla without overshadowing the grape. The brief barrel time lets a measured amount of oxygen soften the tannins while keeping the wine direct and accessible. It shows a deep cherry red, with a clear, straightforward nose of black cherry, roasted plum and blackberry over a touch of liquorice. The palate is medium-bodied and juicy, the dark fruit carried on supple tannins and fresh acidity to a savoury, lightly spiced finish. Serve at 15 to 17 degrees. An easy, versatile partner for everyday meals.
