Double Origin Rum is a cask strength white from German bottler HoneyBatcher, marrying Australian rum with Jamaican distillate, the latter understood to be Hampden, for a high ester unaged blend at a forceful 58%. There is no wood here to soften it, the focus is squarely on raw fermentation character and fruit.
The result is intense and fresh, packed with mango, banana, papaya and lime over a notably oily, mouth filling texture. Sugarcane, florals, citrus and overripe fruit run from nose to finish, with the ester punch driving the whole experience. The Australian component carries much of the weight while the Jamaican funk threads through underneath, giving smoother integration than the strength might suggest. Neat it is bold and oily, but it truly comes alive in a Daiquiri, where that mango and banana ester rush turns a simple cocktail into something with real character.
