Description
HMR Black is a young Garnacha red from Heretat MontRubi, in the town of Font-Rubi in the northern, higher part of the D.O. Penedes in Catalonia. The winery and its vineyards sit between 520 and 700 metres above sea level, where they border deep Mediterranean pine forest and grow alongside wild aromatic scrub. The altitude brings cooler nights and a wide swing between day and night temperatures, which keeps the fruit fresh and the wine aromatic. MontRubi farms sustainably, working mostly with native single varieties and aiming for balance in the vineyard. This wine is made young and without oak ageing, so the fruit stays bright and direct and the Garnacha shows its perfumed side. It is light to medium bodied, with red berries, fresh cherry and plum, wild herbs and white flowers, lifted by a peppery, mineral edge from the high, stony sites. The palate is juicy and fresh, with soft tannins and a clean finish. Serve lightly chilled, around 14 to 15 degrees. It is an easy, food-friendly red for everyday meals.
