Description
This 2001 comes off Port Mourant, the double wooden pot still that is the icon and the heaviest profile of all Demerara marks, now run by DDL at Diamond. The High Spirits Collection matured it 20 years, gave it a port finish and bottled it unsweetened at 46%.
Port Mourant is unmistakable, oily and pungent with anise, liquorice, pencil shavings, sawn timber and dark fruit such as prune and plum. The port finish layers red fruit sweetness over that backbone while two decades of age round the edges. Built from greenheart wood distillation no modern still can replicate, it is a heavyweight Demerara presented unsweetened for drinkers who want that powerful pot still character.
