Hernö sits on the Swedish coast near Härnösand, a small distillery that has built a serious reputation from a remote spot. Their Old Tom revives the historic, sweeter style that bridges London Dry and the cordial gins of old, built on the same nine botanicals as their flagship but rounded out with a touch of sweetness. It earned an Outstanding medal at the IWSC in 2015, and the care shows.
The nose is floral, with vanilla and citrus drifting over gentle juniper. The palate is soft and lightly sweet, threaded with cinnamon, vanilla and fresh herbs, while the finish stays mild and balanced, a quiet hint of spice trailing off. Built for the classics, it makes a beautifully poised Martinez or a Tom Collins with a long twist of lemon.
