Description
This XO comes from Heritiers Madkaud, a small Martinique house bottling spirit from the Saint James distillery, the island's long-established producer. Distilled from fresh sugarcane juice and aged to the XO tier's minimum maturity, the rum carries AOC Martinique status, unsweetened and pitched at a gentle 43%.
The creole column keeps the cane character beneath the oak, and ageing has pushed it toward dark, spice-led territory. The nose is woody with cocoa, spice and coffee, the palate chocolate-driven with wood, mocha and a fruity edge, the finish on wood, dried fruit, a fresh lift and coffee. It steps away from the grassy, vegetal side of young agricole toward something more distillery-led and gourmand, dry and structured. A budget-friendly way to explore a woody, spicy aged Martinique profile, comfortable neat.
